In this article, we argued that ellipsoid microcavities can broaden spontaneous emission spectrum (SES). Through theoretical calculation and simulation verification, we found that ellipsoid microcavities were better than conventional circular microcavities to broaden SES. Based on this finding, we identified how to design the elliptical microcavity to maximize the full width at half magnitude (FWHM) of SES. After discussing these issues, we suggested how to use this method to broaden SES for more required applications.
