Demonstrating a Rewritable Digital Laser
Posted on 2017-04-26 - 18:49
We have demonstrated a digital laser comprising an intra-cavity spatial light modulator
as a digitally addressed rewritable mirror. The output mode of the laser is selected by a
gray-scale image, without any laser realignment or specialized optics. We have demonstrated
the power of the digital laser by playing a movie inside of it and observing a real-time
change in the output beam shape. Customized laser modes may now be selected on-the-fly with a
commercially available device and no specialized optics.
